More revenue from tax but little to show for it

-

GOOD day my longsuffering tax payers I’ve been thinking just how many new houses we will have judging by the frantic building programmes going on in every town in the county.

All these houses will produce more council tax. (An additional 30,000 homes will produce around £60M per year in tax revenue).

Obviously, that extra money will be additional to the current intake and £60M is a lot of extra cash yet we see no significant improvements to the infrastructure.

No extra schools, health centres, etc. meantime the roads just crumble away and hospital waiting times just get longer as do the number of patients who die waiting for an ambulance.

I have never in my working life seen a council of any persuasion believe that it is adequately funded.

No amount of money will ever be enough. They have been whinging about it since I was in the Boy Scouts. It is part of council culture.

They enjoy exceedingly good pensions and virtually never lose their job.

Not many employees in the real world can say that but they never stop moaning. In public No amount of money is ever sufficient.

My old boss used to say, “If you want to keep your job don’t bring me problems…bring me answers,” And he meant it.

He could have said let’s blame it on the government but in the real world you would not get away with that.

The culture of all councils is to whinge about finance. No council I ever followed thought they were adequately funded and nothing…absolutely nothing was their fault.

Cheshire East is not bad. The staff in the front line are excellent, they are closer to the customers and understand them better.

But the higher up the management ladder they go the more out of touch they become.

The one thing in which all councils excel is whinging. Nothing, absolutely nothing is their fault. Lessons are never learned and shifting the blame is their specialist subject.

The first politician prepared to take full responsibility will most definitely get my vote.
