Donation would be ‘massive’ for CAB

-

ALL AREAS: Citizens Advice Maidenhead and Windsor (CAB M&W) have said a donation from the Magpies 150 Challenge funding pot would be ‘absolutely massive’.

CAB M&W, which gives informed advice to residents on social welfare issues, is one of the 15 charities in the borough to benefit from the challenge, set up by

Maidenhead United.

The team is aiming to raise £150,000, which will join a single pot, with proceeds split equally across the 15 charities.

During Magpies 150, Maidenhead United will motivate residents to undertake 1.5, 15 or 150 related challenges (similar to the 2.6 challenge), to fundraise for the charities.

Janice Haynes, advice services manager of CAB W&M, said that the organisation does not receive a lot of donations, because people incorrectly assume it is part of the Government. People also underestimate the cost of training volunteers.

Additionally, as the borough is a high-income area, residents do not always relate to the issues that CAB W&M help with, such as navigating benefits.

“People don’t think they’ll be in this situation, but actually everyone is a very short step away from needing that help,” said Janet.

COVID-19 has also created unique problems, bringing the need for advice on employment rights.
