Bin and done it – let’s restart campaign

-

I know that I am not alone in being disgusted by the amount of litter we see these days, both at venues we see on the news, like the beach at Bournemouth, but also locally, along the river at Bourne End for example the other evening.

Litter has always been a problem in Britain (unlike so many countries abroad) but we seem to have a culture now where so many people leave their litter knowing someone else will clear it up!

Whilst I applaud people who offer to do litter picking, I fail to see why it has become acceptable for the tidy, responsible among us to be picking up the litter for the irresponsible all the time.

I would prefer to see a resurgence of the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign which seems to me to have disappeared in favour of this new culture. I have written to Theresa May, our local MP, to push this point and would encourage others to follow suit.

After all, people carry their cans, bottles, packets, barbecues etc to their chosen venue with no trouble, why can’t they carry them home as well?

So much lighter by then to carry!
