‘Wonderful things’ taking place at Braywick Park says director of rugby

- Maidenhead RFC

Maidenhead’s director of rugby Myke Parrott has updated members on ‘some of the wonderful things’ taking place at Braywick Park while the club waits for more information from the RFU on when the new season can kick off in earnest.

The RFU has delayed the return of competitive play until January 2021 at the earliest and, in his monthly memo to members, Parrott said a definitive league start date was still ‘sadly some way off ’.

Despite this there is plenty still going on at the club. Maids now have a new, and ‘reinvigorated’ Ladies’ section, with the club having recently welcomed 21 new members down to training.

“Just three weeks ago we did not have a ladies’ team,” said Parrott.

“They will compete against the ladies’ teams from High Wycombe, Rams, Abbey, Windsor and Maidenhead Mohawks. I very much hope they will get the fantastic support and reception they deserve.”

Matt Snudden has also been welcomed onto the Maids coaching team and will be responsible for training the ladies’ team.

“Matt has very relevant experience for the role having taken up similar posts with Oxfordshire Ladies, Sherborne, Queen Mary University and Royal Holloway University. Welcome to the Maidenhead family Matt, you’ve made a great choice.”

Parrott has spoken in recent weeks about the lack of a pathway for young girls at Maidenhead RFC, something he’s keen to address with two young daughters of his own.

“This is something I want to change,” he said. “Along with directors of youth and minis respectively, Mike Andrew and Woji, and also new director of player development, Duncan

Jones, we are forging ahead with plans to establish Girls’ teams at the u13s, u15s and u17s age groups and want to cater for everyone at our great club.

“I continue to be amazed by the enthusiasm, numbers and fun that our junior section continue to produce every week.”

The club is also looking to implement a comprehensive framework for coaching across the club, spanning the minis, juniors, colts and senior levels.

“We are looking to implement this framework and provide all our club coaches this robust structure which will outline standardised features, such as rugby terminology, technical and tactical development, extensive content, development milestones, coaching philosophies and club ethos,” said Parrott.
