Sting in the tail for Magpies’ fringe team
Maidenhead United FC
Maidenhead United 1, Brentford B 1 (friendly). With the weekend off due to their early exit from the FA Cup, Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead United arranged a friendly at York Road against Brentford B on Saturday morning.
The fixture provided a useful run out for the squad given their twoweek hiatus from competitive football, with Devonshire using the match to give some of his fringe players some much needed game time.
Academy products Reece Smith and
Bradley Keetch were given opportunities to impress but the star of the show for Maidenhead was on loan Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi, who pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the Bees at bay.
After a goalless first half, Maidenhead took the lead just before halftime. Shaun Donnellan supplied a clever through ball for Danilo Orsi-Dadomo to scamper clear and fire past Simon
Andersson into the roof of the net.
As is customary in such fixtures, a flurry of substitutions followed and after that it was very much the Oluwayemi show.
The Spurs u23s player denied substitutes Alex Gilbert and Lachlan Brook with some exceptional saves before the visitors deservedly levelled at the death with a smart finish from one of their trialists.
The Magpies had a couple of impressive trialists of their own playing, but they were saved from defeat deep in injury time when the wasteful Bees made rather a mess of a giltedged opportunity which resulted in Brook being in an offside position when the ball was eventually bundled home.
