Smith more than happy to take a point

-

Bromley boss Neil Smith was more than happy to escape York Road with a point after seeing his side produce two stunning strikes to come back from being 2-0 down.

Smith felt his side’s luck was out when they missed two great chances in the first half and fell 20 down early in the second to Shaun Donnellan’s thunderous volley. But his side had two incredible strikes of their own up their sleeve to snatch a draw right at the death.

Reflecting on the entertaining clash afterwards Smith felt a draw was about right on both sides: “I thought it wasn’t our day after the first half because of the goal we gave away,” said Smith. “The two one-on-ones, you’ve got to put one of those away, and that’s before they scored. Overall, the boys showed great courage and belief.

“People have got to give Maidenhead some respect. Alan Devonshire puts good teams out. They thoroughly deserve to be where they are.

“That’s not down to luck that’s down to hard work. To get a point today, we’ll take it. The way we got it is even better. Their second goal should have been enough to win any game. But then Reeco (HackettFairchild) pulls out a worldie for us and Bushy (Chris Bush) did the same at the end. The game had three fantastic goals, and anyone could have nicked it.

“When we were 2-0 down, we had to throw bodies forward and you’re going to get caught doing that. We had to ride our luck a little but do you want to sit back and lose the game 2-0 or do you try to push for a draw?”
