Grassroots sports to return after lockdown
Maidenhead United FC: It’ll be ‘full steam ahead’ for United and other sports clubs
The Government announced this week that grassroots and amateur sport, including youth football, will return following the easing of lockdown restrictions next week.
Outdoor team sports have been on hold since November 5, as have most of Maidenhead United’s Community coaching and training sessions. CEO Jon Adams said the plan would be to get all of those up and running from next Wednesday
(December 2).
“We’ve been slightly fortunate in a way,” he said.
“It’s been different to the
previous lockdown, because we’ve been able to continue our work within schools during the school day which is good.
“We’ll be getting back and planning for the Christmas holidays.
“I know a lot of parents will be keen for their kids to get out and get active and be active over the Christmas period.
“We’ll be full steam ahead with all our lockdown activities from December 2.”
Throughout the past few months Maidenhead United have attempted to focus on
the ‘positive side of things’, according to Adams.
The club’s Magpies 150 Challenge continues to raise thousands of pounds for 15 charities in the Maidenhead and Windsor area that have been impacted by the pandemic.
The club’s community helpline and support scheme for vulnerable residents has also been quietly going on behind the scenes.
“We’ve tried to focus on the positive side of things,” said Adams. “The 150 challenge has been really well supported and received. It’s great
that people are continuing to engage with that, and we’ve got some initiatives planned for that in the new year.
“That fundraising will continue going through the year.
“The community care programme is also still going. There is less demand for support, but clearly vulnerable people out there who still need our support. That quietly goes on behind the scenes.
“We’re very grateful to the commitment and effort of the volunteers in helping to support those most impacted by the restrictions.”
