Altrincham 2, Maidenhead United 0 Maidenhead United’s hopes of victory at Altrincham on Saturday appeared to fade badly after a floodlight failure at the J Davidson stadium.

The Magpies were well below par for much of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat and saw their seven-match unbeaten run in the league deservedly ended by their North West opponents.

However, the Magpies did manage to carve out a few half chances in the first half, with Danilo Orsi-Dadomo coming the closest to breaking the deadlock with a shot that he pulled wide of the target in the first period.

Just when it seemed they might be getting on top of their hosts, the floodlights at the J Davidson Stadium went out for 10-15 minutes and the Magpies never switched back on when they came back on.

Altrincham made a bright start but failed to produce a clear chance in the game until into the second half.

Neither side managed to muster a decent effort on goal, despite 15 minutes being added at the end of the half and the game was lacking in quality when the referee finally blew the half-time whistle.

United were looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to eight matches, but they never really looked like recovering after Altrincham broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute.

The hosts were awarded the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot when Ryan Colclough was brought down in the area and Josh Hancock swept the home side ahead.

The hosts then gave themselves a cushion in the 80th minute when Tom Peers ran onto Matty Kosylo’s ball to fire home a second. For Altrincham it was a return to winning ways and a result that lifted them to 10th in the table. For the Magpies this was a third match without a win in the National League and it dropped them to sixth in the table ahead of the mid-week fixtures.

United would have hoped to have bounced back against Dover Athletic at York Road on

Tuesday but the game was postponed due to a COVID-19 event in the Whites’ camp.

They’re due to face Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday.
