Magpies hope to make history in the FA Cup

Maidenhead United Women FC: Women looking to reach second round for first time

-

Maidenhead United Women return to action this weekend for the first time since November 1 when they visit Billericay Town in the first round of the Women’s FA Cup.

The Magpies saw off a Fulham Foundation side to book their place in the first round for the first time since 2014, and they’re looking to make club history by reaching the second round for the first time ever.

They’ll have to do that after almost five weeks without a game with the side unable to play due to national lockdown restrictions. They may be short of match practice, but the players have been working hard to stay fit during this enforced lay off.

Centre-Back Gemma Bloor cannot wait to get back: “Over lockdown we have all been doing our part in keeping fit and this has shown upon return to training.

“Being back on the training ground is class - working together as a team again to prepare for the next challenge.

“We are working tirelessly as a unit to put ourselves in the best position possible to get a result next weekend.”

Sarah Thompson is feeling similarly upbeat: “It’s great to be back especially after a month of training outside in the cold by myself! It’s good seeing each other and catching up after a month. In Lockdown I kept fit by sticking to a fitness plan put together by our Strength and Conditioning Coach.”

Opponents Billericay have won one but lost two of their

FAWNL Division 1 South East matches this season and Nev Saroya’s side are relishing the challenge of pitting their wits against them to see which side will progress to round two .
