Coley couldn’t be happier on or off the pitch after joining ‘Magpies family’

-

Josh Coley has revealed how he feels part of the Maidenhead family thanks to the club’s efforts to help him settle in at York Road.

The winger has made a bright start to life with Alan Devonshire’s Magpies and has established himself as one of Maidenhead’s star players since arriving from Stotfold earlier in the summer.

Having scored twice and assisted many more, the 22-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful start to his debut season in the National League and has helped the Magpies climb the ranks in the division.

“I’m loving my time at Maidenhead at the minute,” he said.

“I couldn’t be happier on and off the pitch and I think it’s down to a lot of the players the gaffer has brought in that have helped me settle in so quickly.

“I spend a lot of time with (Dan) Sparkes. He’s round the corner

from my house and lives only five minutes away. Within the changing room, I talk to skipper (Alan) Massey quite a lot and I have chats with Rem (Remy Clerima). But I speak to all the boys. You get the best bond with the team that way, especially on the pitch.

“We’ve got a really good squad and it’s probably one of the best I’ve been part of in my career to date.”

He may only have made six appearances in black and white so far, but Coley is pleased with his development since arriving at

York Road. He says he is learning a lot from Devonshire and the coaching team, with the experienced manager helping him learn new traits.

Coley added: “When I came in, the first thing Dev said to me was ‘I just want - whenever you play or get the opportunity to play - I want you to go at people and be positive. I don’t want you turning back, just plenty of crosses and shots.’

“I think my defensive work and my workrate has always been good. But having the gaffer tell you that you’ve got the freedom to go and express yourself has been really good for me.

“At the minute, I’m really enjoying my football at Maidenhead. We’re playing well as a team and I’m consistently involved. I think that’s one of the most important things for a player of my age aswell. This is my first season at a men’s football club where I’ve really been involved. I’ve played as many games at Maidenhead as I did in Scotland already. The gaffer has given me my opportunity and I’m helping out with as many goals and assists I can.”
