United will respond to ‘gutting’ FA Cup result
Maidenhead United Women FC: New signing believes Magpies will have a strong season
Nicole Barrett insists Maidenhead United Women have the strength to bounce back from their FA Cup exit to Billericay Town and go on to enjoy the rest of their season.
On Sunday, the Magpies were beaten 4-0 by the Blues in the tournament’s first round after a six week break away from competitive action.
Midfielder Barrett admitted the result was ‘gutting’ but has urged her teammates to make amends with a positive performance against Southampton this weekend.
“We went into the game after a six week break so it was always going to be a little bit tough for us,” said Barrett.
“We had a couple of chances but definitely not as many as they had. It didn’t fall for us in the places where we needed it to and we didn’t make the most of our opportunities. There a lot of things we will need to work on individually and as a team.
“Our fitness levels were definitely there but we definitely missed the football. I think pausing the women’s FA Cup when they continued the men’s definitely put us back a little bit aswell.
“Everyone is absolutely gutted but we’ve just got to focus on the rest of the season now. We’ve got a big game this weekend at home and it is our first home game where we’re allowed spectators.
“We’ve got a very good mentality in the team where we can bounce back from a game and drive each other forward,” added Barrett.
“We don’t want to get too overconfident about our chances but we’ve been working really hard in this league and the opportunities we have been given.
“We have put the FA Cup to bed and we are ready to bounce back in this weekend’s game.”
