Burnham captain Duncan set to make international debut

Burnham captain Kian Duncan has been called up to the Anguilla national team to compete in the regional qualifiers for the FIFA

World Cup in Qatar.

The central midfielder could make his debut for the Caribbean island as they take on the Dominican Republic and Barbados in next month’s Concacaf qualifiers.

Kian, a graduate from the FAB Academy at Bisham Abbey, will fly out to Miami this weekend where he will meet up with the squad ahead of a month-long training camp.

moment for the player and his family.

He said: “Opportunities like this don’t come along too often so he’s just got to make the most of it, take it all in and enjoy it because you never know what’s going to happen.

“Having experienced that with Gav, it’s such a massive achievement for the family and we’re so proud of him so for Kian it’s the same and we’re really proud of him and the opportunity he has right now.”

James handed the young midfielder the armband when he took over at The Gore at the beginning of the season.

He has since been deployed in his favoured central midfield role while also operating at wing-back when required.

The Burnham boss added: “He’ll do anything for the team. He’s strong on the ball, composed and never looks like he’s in trouble.

“He’s a very talented footballer and if he applies himself like I know he can he’ll be just fine.”

Kian, who qualifies to play for Anguilla through his dad, could make his debut when the Soccer Dolphins take on the Dominican Republic on March 27.

The tiny Caribbean island are managed by former Premier League striker Stern John.
