Devonshire admits Magpies are not at their usual standard after defeat

Maidenhead United boss Alan Devonshire was left ‘bitterly disappointed’ with his side’s efforts after they were defeated 4-2 by Aldershot Town on Tuesday evening.

The Magpies failed to learn their lesson from Saturday’s draw at Bromley as they looked off the pace against the Shots in the early exchanges, their visitors scoring three of their four goals inside the first half at York Road.

Josh Rees was able to extend that advantage by two goals as the game approached half time.

Danilo Orsi-Dadomo’s tidy finish moments before the break gave the Magpies hope of mounting a comeback in the second half and the forward was able to score another early into the restart to make the score 3-2.

But, the visitors held on and secured all three points deep into injury time with Rees scoring his third goal of the game to cap off a frustrating evening for Maidenhead.

“There are no excuses,” said Magpies manager Devonshire. “We defended poorly as a team and we gave them too much space and too much respect.”

“We didn’t play very well and that’s what went wrong.

“We just weren’t at our level that we needed to be at and I know we are capable of. In the last three or four games, we haven’t been up to our usual standard.

“Yes, we’ve got a few injuries but we’re not using them as an excuse. I’m just bitterly disappointed.”

On the team’s current injuries, Devonshire added: “Sam Barratt is getting better but he is still a little while away. Remy Clerima is close to returning, and Dan Sparkes will be okay for our next match.”
