Check in to help clock up miles

-

COOKHAM: Fundraisers are hoping to galvanise others into travelling a total of 9,000 kilometres by Easter Sunday to raise money for children in Ethiopia.

The ‘Clock Up Your Kilometres’ campaign will help 70 children at two different schools in the city of Debre Birhan. The 9,000km is the distance between Debre Birhan and Cookham.

The campaign is being led by Partners for Change (PFC) Ethiopia ambassador

Nicky Hyslop and her daughter Bella, who live in Boulters Lock.

After starting on March 1, the campaign finishes on Easter Sunday.

Participants clock up the miles by walking, swimming, cycling or skating in their local areas.

The group has totalled 1,000km thus far and have ‘made it to Frankfurt’ in terms of overall distance.

Children at Holy Trinity School in Cookham are getting involved, alongside

friends and family living all over the country.

PFC Ethiopia is still looking for more participants to help drum up the distance. The kilometres are updated on a virtual map each week.

The distance travelled can be sent to Nicky by 5pm on the Friday. To get involved, email pfc ethiopia@gmail.com

The joint effort has raised £475 so far.

A driver has been jailed for dangerous driving after trying to flee police on February 8. Marcus Burke was sentenced to 10 months’ jail and banned from driving during a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Maidenhead’s Big Read went ahead this year despite some bumps in the road, taking place on virtual platforms. A dozen schools enjoyed live virtual talks and workshops from famous and local authors and illustrators.
