Race your ‘balloon’ across the world

-

Alexander Devine will be holding a virtual balloon race as an Easter fundraiser.

On Sunday, April 4, the charity will be holding the Devine Easter Balloon Race, a seven-day virtual race that will see competitors race across the globe.

Starting in Jerusalem, racers will be able to track their balloons on Google Maps as they fight against the weather.

Every virtual balloon can be customised, down to the shape, colour and even helium content.

The balloons cost £3 each to enter, and prizes include £500 cash, an iPad and book tokens. Competitors can enter as many as they would like.

Tai Bishop, fundraiser at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice said: “We know at the moment with the current restrictions that it is just not possible for people to support us in the usual way. So our Devine Easter Balloon Race is a really ‘eggciting’ way for supporters to get involved and have fun, all from the comfort of their own home.

“It’s just £3 a balloon to take part and well as being in with a chance of winning some great prizes, it is the perfect opportunity for a mini-competition between friends, family or colleagues to see who has what it takes to be the ultimate balloon builder this Easter.

MAIDENHEAD: Former Furze Platt school pupil Sam MacGregor has been offered a month covering the Friday Early Breakfast shows on BBC Radio 1 in June.

He and his co-host Danni Diston will be warming up for Mollie King and Greg James.

The opportunity comes off the back of their show over Christmas. Eight new presenters were all given their first opportunity to host on Radio 1 over the 2020 festive period as part of the station’s guest presenter initiative.

“We’re buzzing to be invited back to

Radio 1 after our Christmas show,” said Sam “We had such a great time covering Life Hacks and The Official Chart.

“We can’t wait to jump behind the mics together again. We're absolutely ecstatic and this truly is a dream gig.”

Aled Haydn Jones,

Head of Radio 1, said: “The Friday morning shows are a brilliant way for us to learn more about the next generation of presenters. It’s a great opportunity to see what direction they take when given a platform of this scale, and I’m very excited to hear how they all do.”
