Dev commends side’s efforts in encounter

-

Alan Devonshire lauded his team's efforts in an 'unpredictable' encounter as Maidenhead United overcame Gary Johnson's Torquay United, 4-1.

With three of the Magpies’ regular starters (George Wells, Remy Clerima, Dan Sparkes) absent through minor injuries, Devonshire handed a start to Ryheem Sheckleford, Danilo OrsiDadomo, and Seth Twumasi.

Having been moved down the pecking order since Wells’ arrival from Slough Town, Twumasi certainly gave boss Devonshire plenty to mull over at the final whistle as the defender performed excellently, notching himself two assists over the course of the game.

“Seth hasn’t been playing as regularly as he’d like since some of the new boys have come in, but his attitude has been fantastic,” said Devonshire.

“He trains hard every session we have, and I’m pleased with how well he played.

“That’s what we need to be successful as a club, players like him.

“I set the lads a challenge to be as good as they were on Saturday (against Chesterfield) and I felt we surpassed that. We were excellent and we put in bundles of effort.

“Every team you play in this league is a new challenge and you can't predict what will happen. We have done ever so well against them (Torquay) considering where they are in the league.”

With no game to be played this weekend, Devonshire said he will look to give his players a well-earned rest and hopes those who are injured will recover in time for next Tuesday’s clash at Barnet.

“They have worked terrifically hard in the last two games so we will probably have a session on Thursday and see what we might or might not do on Saturday.

“Our squad is a bit thin at the moment , and we have a few out, but we’re hopeful we will have most of our boys back by the next game.”
