King set to defend his place on the throne

Motorsport: Holyport racer confirms he will race again in Porsche Carrera Cup

-

Holyport’s Harry King has confirmed he will defend his Porsche Carrera Cup GB crown having accelerated away from rivals to claim the title in his rookie season.

The highly rated young driver graduated to the series last year after securing the coveted role of being Porsche’s GB Junior driver, a position earned off the back of winning the Ginetta GT4 Supercup in 2019.

And with the help of Team Parker Racing in the pitlane he produced a sensational campaign, winning 12 of the 16 races and securing pole position for every round bar one.

This earned him the championship title with a round to spare and has also seen Harry voted the National Driver of the Year by readers of Autosport, ahead of the likes of British Touring Car champions Ash Sutton and Colin Turkington.

Harry will once again race with Team Parker in 2021 but will go into the new season as a marked man, and the driver to beat.

He will continue to benefit from the specialist training support at the Porsche Human Performance Centre and technical support from Porsche Motorsport.

Harry will also be a brand ambassador for Porsche at numerous events throughout the season.

His title defence will begin at Snetterton – the circuit where he wrapped up the championship last season – in mid-May.

“I’m hugely excited to be returning to Porsche Carrera Cup GB again for 2021 in my role as the Porsche Junior driver, and to be continuing my partnership with Team Parker Racing," he said.

“There’s no denying that we had a strong season last year and achieved everything that we set out to achieve, and I’m looking forward to building on that during the season ahead.

“To win the title in such recordbreaking fashion last year was fantastic, but this is a new season, and we are all starting from zero again.

“My goal is to get the maximum we can from every race – which wasn’t always possible last year with three retirements for reasons that were simply out of our control – and I am fully focused on securing a second championship in 2021.

"I’ve done everything identically to last season, from the same training right through to being in the same team with the same mechanics and engineers, so there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to repeat what we did last year.

"Even with all the pole positions and race wins so far, I know that there is still room for improvement and that I’m still learning all the time.

“It is no secret that my goal is to to progress to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in future, so it is important for me to work hard and keep improving as a driver so that I’m ready for the challenges that are still to come in my career.

"I’m extremely proud to be representing Porsche GB again in my second year as the Junior Driver.

“It is something I thoroughly enjoyed last year, even though there were elements of the programme off-track that were affected by COVID restrictions.

“I’m looking forward to getting fully stuck into everything this year to continue my development as a driver."

Harry will be supported this season by Octane Finance, 1BR Cars, Clive Emson Land & Property Auctioneers, Entire Race Engineering, The Great British Valeting Company, Hive Frames and Universal Tyres.
