Marlow make their plans for hockey return

Following recent Government and England Hockey announcements, Marlow Hockey Club have now outlined their plans for their return to the sport.

A survey completed by 350 of the club’s members showed 95% are keen to return and play with added support for informal matches, training in the regular groups, and social groups.

Marlow have therefore decided to extend their hockey season for two months, from March 29 to May 28, and will run training sessions as if they were in the normal hockey season.

They will also book additional pitches as required and all the sessions will have paid and volunteer coaches to ensure they are structured and fun.

The club expects to receive guidance and direction from England Hockey this week on when they can participate in competitve matches.

They have already made a pitch available on Sundays and if there is further demand, the club can also hire the pitches at Bisham or Great Marlow to play their games.

They are also in discussion with Marlow Sports Club to have the catering van open on Saturdays and from April 12, are planning to offer outside, seated bar service, in line with the lockdown easing measures.

The club hope there is also the opportunity to run their own social events at the club, including some inter-club mixed hockey games or tournaments.

In a statement on Marlow Hockey Club’s website, Chairman Keith Packer said: “I’m sure you appreciate these are exceptional times and we are governed by the various COVID lockdown rules. Having said that, we are determined to play hockey into the summer and to make up for lost pitch time.

“Thank you for your understanding and support for our club and I very much look forward to catching up near or on the pitch soon.”
