Parrott warns rivals to write Maids off at their peril

Myke Parrott has warned punters to write Maidenhead RFC off at their peril following their loss to Dorking at the weekend, with the director of rugby committed to helping the team rectify its poor start to the season.

Saturday’s defeat to Dorking was Maids’ third in a row – after defeats to North Walsham and Wimbledon – leaving them entrenched in 13th place with only one point so far, and with a minus 48 points difference, the worst in the division.

Macaulay's last gasp try in Saturday's 20-43 defeat at Braywick Park, the margin of defeat would have been even greater. After the match, Parrott said he his players were feeling pained but the director of rugby blasted the doom-mongers who have already written off Maids’ chances of survival and condemned them to rugby at a lower level.

“We’ve not become a bad side overnight,” he said. “We’ve come into a new league where it is very different tactically and we haven’t adapted as quickly as we would like.

“I will always back these boys so write us off at your peril because it’s a long season and when we get it right, and we will at some point, we’re going to put on some decent scores here.

“We’ve got a great group of lads who gave as much as they could today.

“There are a few things we need to look at but right now, I am quite emotional. The players are emotional too – we hate losing.”

Parrott added: “I think we need to have a sit down and ask ourselves some questions.

“Are we taking on direction from the coaching team well enough? As a coaching unit, are we explaining ourselves clearly enough? Are we fit enough? Are we working hard enough?

“We’ll take a step back and find out what we need to do differently and what we need to do better.”
