Personal bests aplenty for MAC competitors
Wendy Rumble made her Maidenhead Athletic Club (MAC) debut at the last track and field event of the season at Eton on September 11, producing new personal bests (pbs) in both the discus (14.65m) and shot (7m).
Leila Oliver also surpassed her target of 4m in the shot with a throw of 5.13m while Craig West set new pbs in the 800m (2.12.9) and 1,500m with 4.41.25.
Christian Noble also pulled on a MAC vest for the first time and recorded pbs in the 400m (56.28) and 800m (2.13.9). Robin Hawkins was also back in action for the club, throwing 9.80m for a pb in the ‘not for the faint hearted’ hammer throw event, and reaching 7.39m in the shot. Filippo D’Orazio produced a couple of impressive efforts in the long jump, 4.86m for a new pb, and javelin, 26.75. Chester Shen also took two seconds off his best time in the 200m, finishing in 25.26.
Katie Crowhurst impressed in all three disciplines at the British Triathlon Finals in Mallory Park in Leicestershire on September 11. She topped her age category in each of the three legs, completing the swim in 6mins06secs, the bike in 18.39 and the run in
10.30 to secure victory as the first female and fifth place overall.
Pauline Siddons also achieved her best ever Age Graded performance in Higginson Park, Marlow, finishing with 87.55per cent, 10 per cent higher than the second placed finisher by age grade.
There was a trip down memory lane for Leila and Jon who competed at the Havering AC open meet, not far from where they grew up. There was a 17 second improvement for Jon in the 3,000m, for a new pb of 11.03.99, while Robert took on the discus and javelin producing respectable throws in both.
The Swim Serpentine event took place in perfect weather conditions
on Saturday, with
Lesley Kernaghan completing the 2mile swim in 1hr11mins. She was the fourth female finisher in her age group and collected her London Classics medal having taken part in the London Marathon, London Ride 100 and Serpentine Swim. Other MAC finishers were Anthony Hall in 1.16.13 and Mel Tudor in
1.21.19. A special mention to Anthony’s son Daniel, who comfortably won the 12-14yrs category in 11.48, only 11 seconds behind a Team GB triathlete who won the event.
Neil Muir completed a Rather wet Regency 10k near Leamington this weekend, finishing in 49.02. Rosie Ellis paced her daughter Katie in her first ever 10k race, the Bristol 10k, and they crossed the finish in 1.16.19.
W A programme of activities is in the works for tomorrow’s MACMillan Coffee Morning at Maidenhead Athletic Club. MAC has teamed up with Maidenhead United Football Club and Braywick Leisure to offer a range of activities for people to enjoy and there will of course be coffee and cakes to help raise money for MacMillan Cancer Care.
The activities get underway from 10am until 1pm with a social led walk around Braywick Nature Reserve.
A Walking Football tournament will also be taking place throughout the morning.
