Satsumas taken to the cleaners in cup

Flackwell Heath FC: Boss Richardson delighted with Berks & Bucks success

-

'With the utmost respect', Flackwell Heath boss Marcus Richardson believes his side could have taken Wokingham & Emmbrook ‘to the cleaners’ in their Berks and Bucks Senior Cup clash.

At Wilks Park, the Heathens defeated the Satsumas by two goals to nil thanks to Mo Ceesay and Simeon Weekes.

However, Richardson believes his team could have progressed into the next round of the competition by a greater margin had they possessed a killer instinct in front of the net.

“Not to be disrespectful to Wokingham, but we were so much better than them,” he said.

“We controlled the game from start to finish, I’m just upset with how my team didn’t finish them off – we didn’t take them to the cleaners. The way we played, the way we moved the ball, I just feel all that let us down was the lack of killer instinct in front of goal.

“Okay, I did swap round my team quite a bit, but I still believe that what I’m building and what I’ve got there should have taken Wokingham apart.

“We went in level at half-time and I’m thinking ‘I can still play’. My team stood off a little, even though we were the dominant side, I just didn’t see that killer instinct.”

Asked whether it’s a trait that he could instil into the players in training or if fresh legs are required at the club, Richardson added: “I am always looking for better players and hopefully I can bring some to the club in the next couple of weeks.”

“I’m most probably three or four players short, being honest with you, but I still think we have a squad that can compete with the best.

“My squad is thin compared to how it was last season so I’d need to bring in players that not only want to improve themselves and help us out in front of goal, but they also need to understand my philosophy and how I go about things.”
