Juniors hit the ground running in Horsenden

-

Cookham Running Club's juniors certainly hit the ground running in the first cross country meeting of the season, held in gloriously sunny conditions at Horsenden Hill, Greenford (Middlesex) this weekend.

Quinn Bookless outstripped her rivals in the u11s girls’ race, finishing 37 seconds clear of the second placed runner to win the opening race of the North West London Young Athletes League at a canter.

Jacqueline Heller opened up a similar gap as she won the u15s girls’ event, leading Eva Bartlett, ninth, Honey Fitzgerald, 15th, and Olivia Carter, 16th, to second place in the team event.

This proved to be a successful return to cross county competition after an 18-month hiatus due to coronavirus restrictions.

Cookham claimed a team win in the u13s girls’ race, where they were led home by Olivia Insley in second and Grace Colley in third.

Great packing by Lola Sherwin (5th) and Chloe Bullock (6th) saw the team finish eight points clear of London Heathside in second.

In the boy's races, William Howes was the first of the club's u13s to finish in fourth place, with Joe Carter, seventh, Toby Holmes, 13th, and Luke Rice,

15th, bringing the team home to a second placed finish.

In the u11s age group, William Garrett finished sixth, and Harrison Walker 10th as the team finished fourth overall.

There was a strong run from Sam Colley to come third in the u15s boys’ race while Jemima Ridley started her winter training campaign by finishing second in the u17s girls’ race.

Henry Johnston also showed solid early season pace to finish seventh in the u17s boys’ event.
