Blues did just enough to pick up all three points

-

According to boss Mark Bartley (below with Jordan Brown), Marlow FC did ‘just enough’ to secure the three points over Tooting and Mitcham United on Saturday afternoon.

Following their exit from the FA Trophy last weekend, the Blues were keen to get back to winning ways and were just about able to at Imperial Fields.

Unsurprisingly, in-form Nnamdi Nwachuku opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Kameron English doubled his side’s advantage a little over five minutes later.

The Terrors’ Dan Williams pulled a goal back before the interval but an industrious display in the second half ensured the victory for Bartley and his men.

“We definitely had to dig in a little bit in that second half because they were throwing everything at us to try and get an equaliser,” said the Blues boss.

“From that perspective, it was good to see that we had resilience and, even though they piled a lot of players forward, we really restricted them for only one or two openings.

“They had a good chance in the first half, forcing Granty (Simon Grant) into making a quick save. We were a little bit disappointed in the way we conceded their goal but other than that, we were resolute without being spectacular to be honest – we did just enough.”

Bartley added: “It was pleasing to come away from there with the three points having gone out of the FA Trophy last week.

“We played really well against Larkhall Athletic – I’d go as far to say it was one of our best performances this season – but for one reason or another, we just didn’t get the result.

“Going into the Tooting and Mitcham United match we wanted to make sure had the same approach and the same attitude.

“There are still a couple of aspects I believe we could improve but we were very good. I said the other week how we had lost our rhythm a little bit, but I think we regained that on Saturday.”

W While their league campaign may well remain number one priority, Marlow FC will not sniff at the opportunity to grab some silverware this season.

On Tuesday evening, they welcomed Abingdon United to the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground for the first round of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

The Blues won, 2-1, thanks to Nnamdi Nwachuku and Jordan

Brown (pen).
