Four Windsor sides secure promotion

-

Windsor Hockey Club has had a phenomenal season with four out of eight teams winning promotion – three as outright champions.

The ladies section enjoyed the most success with all three top teams going up as winners or their respective leagues. But it was the Ladies third team that outshone the rest with a record breaking run of 22 wins on the trot, scoring an incredible 111 goals without conceding one. The team racked up a maximum 66 points and were runaway winners of Thames Division 4, securing promotion to Division 3 with five games in hand.

They left nearest rivals Marlow 7s trailing in their wake on 49 points.

Windsor Ladies First XI (below) topped North Division 3 in the newly created South Central men's and women's leagues, dropping points just once in a draw and winning the remaining 21 games.

They slammed home 105 goals, conceded just 10, and were way ahead of rivals Witney 2s with 64 points while second placed Witney managed 48.

Next season sees them start in North Division 2 while the ladies second team is promoted to Thames Division 1 after taking the top spot in Division 2.

They also had an impressive run with 88 goals for and just nine against in a remarkable season that completed the treble as they were the last ladies team to secure a trophy.

Windsor Mens First XI also go up as runners up in North Division 3.

But the second team had their hearts broken in the restructured league as despite securing second place learnt late that only one team from men's Thames Division 1 would be promoted.
