Peters: ‘We'll have our opponents on their toes’

-

Ryan Peters is confident Maidenhead United will keep their forthcoming opponents ‘on their toes’, with the club now blessed with near enough a full-strength squad for the first time in the National League this season.

If there were any positives to take from Saturday’s defeat to Solihull Moors, one would definitely be the return to action of long-term absentee Sam Barratt who was introducedas a second half substitute for Dan Sparkes.

The winger is capable of netting 15 goals a season, according to Peters, a goalscoring threat the Magpies have sorely missed with top scorer Josh Kelly shouldering the burden for much of the campaign.

One notable negative from the clash at

Damson Park was the injury suffered by midfielder Ryan Upward. He was stretchered off late and replaced by Charlee Adams and, while the midfielder was confident the knee injury wasn't as bad as first feared, it remains to be seen how many games he'll miss.

“We haven’t had much of Sammy this season,” Peters told the Magpies' media officer Grace Scott after the match.

“This is a boy that scores 15 goals a season so when you lose that number of goals, it’s not going to help us. But he’s back and we’re over the moon. If he can get 15 goals in the last however many amount of games, that would be brilliant.

“To see him back on the pitch is only going to help us. The gaffer (Alan Devonshire) hasn’t been able to pick from a solid squad for the entire season but we’ve got eight games left and he’s finally able to do that.

It’s going to keep our oppositions on their toes.

“The gaffer knows what he’s doing and I imagine it’s going to be a rotation system [going forward] because we’ve got a big enough squad now. We’ll see how that impacts the end of the season.”
