Holyport produce spirited display in President’s Cup

-

FC Holyport's u13s side produced a spirited, if ultimately unsuccessful display in the President's Cup as they lost 5-1 to Townmead.

After an even first half, Holyport took the lead when Robert Hern hammered home a rebound from a free kick that was saved.

However, Townmead equalised almost immediately with Kierdan

Adega beating three Port players before firing past the keeper.

Their size advantage then told in the second half as they scored four more without reply to win 5-1. Adega grabbed another, Kevin N'somi also scored twice, and Denzal Mahove was also on target.

Elsewhere in the President's Cup, Burnham Juniors Sabres Yellow beat FC Cippenham Leopards 3-1 and Frontline proved too strong for Singh Sabha, winning 6-3.

In the Under 12 Treasurer's Cup, three of the quarterfinals were settled with Singh Sabha beating Marish Wizards Blacks 2-0 and Burnham Junior Lynx Blue winning 4-0 away at FC Cippenham Panthers. S4K Wolves also defeated Slough Town Junior Stags 61 to reach the semi-finals. Cookham Dean Rebels claimed a comprehensive 6-0 win over FC Cippenham Tigers in their first-round game.

W Maidenhead Boys & Girls u14s Panthers won their home game against Spencers Wood 4-3, despite playing with only nine men against 11.

Initially the numerical superiority told, with Spencers Wood sweeping into a 3-0 lead before half-time.

However, the game had been wellcontested, and Maidenhead showed great spirit and tenacity to fight back and win. Harry McGill headed in their first before Harry James ran onto a Callum Neeson-Roberts clearance to make it 3-2. Ollie Webb fired in their equaliser from outside the box and McGill headed in another Rowan Sellman corner to put them in front in the final minutes. Manager Roland McGill said: “The boys held on until the final whistle for a remarkable comeback win. Everyone really put a great performance in today and should be really proud of themselves.

Elsewhere the club's u18 Boys beat Windsor Youth Harriers Gladiators 42 at home, the u12s Wolverines drew 22 with Rotherfield United Wasps, the u12s Girls lost 4-3 away to Thatcham & Newbury Town Blue and the u14s Girls Mavericks lost a double header away to Thatcham & Newbury Town Blue, the matches ending 0-1 and 0-3.
