Magpies’ valuable point on the road

Maidenhead United FC: United produce spirited display in draw at Bromley

-

Maidenhead United were held to a goalless draw by Bromley at

Hayes Lane on Monday afternoon, but it wasn’t for a want of trying according to assistant boss Ryan Peters.

Peters felt the Magpies just about shaded proceedings, against a Bromley side that still has aspirations of qualifying for the playoffs.

The Magpies created the game’s best chances and came closest to breaking the deadlock when Kane Ferdinand rattled the crossbar with a header.

But the Ravens also struck the post as Nathan Ashmore signed off on his extremely successful loan move from Boreham Wood with another clean sheet, his fourth in a row.

United came into the clash off the back of Friday's convincing 2-0 win over Weymouth at York Road, while Bromley had also been buoyed by their first league win in several weeks as they overcame Eastleigh 2-0 away from home.

Both teams went for it in an entertaining and open clash, but neither could find the net, with Maidenhead making three attacking changes in the second half to try and prize open the Ravens’ defence.

Speaking to Maidenhead’s media officer, Grace Scott, afterwards, Peters said: “Any point we get is going to be valuable.

“This is a good side here who are going for the play-offs.

“We stifled them and had enough chances to go on and win the game. On another day we probably take some of those chances. We were tired, I’m not making excuses but, on another day, we’d expect some of those players to step up and take those chances.

“It’s a good performance, that’s four clean sheets on the trot so

we’re looking for positives and that’s a positive.”

Devonshire also handed a start to centre back Jack Wakely in place of Will De Havilland and he impressed at the heart of another disciplined defensive display.

Hungarian goalkeeper, Dan Gyollai, is now fit to return and should be back between the sticks for Maidenhead’s trip to Torquay United on April 30.

Peters added: “Sure, why not (go for it), we’ve been in good form, and we tried to get a few more

bodies on to score a goal.

“It wasn’t to be today, but it wasn’t for the want of trying.

“It doesn’t change the way we want to play. We want to push on and win games, but Jack’s come in and done very well as well.

“Ash has been brilliant for us since he came here. Immense for us. Dan (Gyollai) got injured and Ash came in and has been phenomenal.

“Ash is going to go back now as Dan is ready, but we expect the same from Dan.”
