Titans soar against Jets and back it up against Blue Jays

-

The Maidenhead Titans soared to an opening day victory over the BA Jets in the 2022 WMSL League last week, showcasing their fielding and batting skills in the 14-4 victory.

Looking to build on last season's fourth-placed finish, the Titans came into this campaign searching for their first opening day win since 2019.

Their opponents, BA Jets, matched up to them well last season with the sides splitting their four-game series, however, an excellent defensive display carried the Titans to a comprehensive victory in this 2022 curtain raiser.

The opening Jet batters were quickly dispensed with and, although the visitors were able to load the bases in their first innings, they couldn’t put any points on the board.

The Titans scampered into the lead, aided by the Jets' pitcher allowing two baserunners get around for a 2-0 head start. With an impressive outing on the mount by John Eddyvean, the Titans defence was seldom troubled. Manuel Pinto, returning for a second season, also impressed as the starting shortstop while captain Kai Benaim hardly put a foot wrong in his new role.

They scored five runs in the second innings and two more in the fourth while the Jets offense struggled to ignite. Leaking runs by the innings they were 14-0 behind and facing a shut out by the seventh innings.

They did eventually manage to get some points on the board, with some help from the Titans whose errors led to four runs. However, it wasn't enough to make the Titans bat again and they got their campaign underway with a dominant victory.

The Titans also performed well in

their second game of the season, making it two for two with a 19-13 win at Blue Jays on Tuesday.
