Taylor steps down from role with immediate effect

Maidenhead United announced on Monday that women's team manager Ryan Taylor was stepping down from the role with immediate effect due to personal reasons. Taylor oversaw a hugely successful 2021/22 season for the women's team which saw them record several club records.

Not only did they secure their best FAWNL finish of sixth place, but they also kept a record seven clean sheets having already secured a best-ever tally of away victories in the fourth tier with four wins on opposition soil.

The Magpies also registered their fewest league defeats in a season and their joint best FAWNL points tally.

The recruitment process to find Taylor's replacement has already begun as the club looks ahead to what it hopes will be another competitive season for the women's team.

Taylor said: “Following the completion of our National League campaign I informed the players that I would be stepping down from my position at the club due to personal reasons, which the players have been aware of since the turn of the new year.

“The decision to step down was a very hard one to make. But I must be realistic, and with everything going on I feel that I cannot commit the time deserved and required to keep moving this project forward. I would like to think the foundations have been put in place for my successor to move this squad forward again next season whilst also continuing the development away from the pitch.”

“Having had time to reflect on the season, we have managed to achieve many National League milestones, including our highest ever leave position, fewest defeats, and most clean sheets to name but a few. However, another key objective for us was to beat our highest ever points total, which ultimately, we managed to equal following the point gained in our final fixture.

“Personally, I am disappointed not to have achieved this target, having had many opportunities to claim all three points in many of the games we drew this season.

“Lastly, I would like to put on record that I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to work with this great club, back-room staff and this talented group of players and will be keeping a keen eye on their progress in future campaigns. Up the Magpies.”
