Town lose track of scent in defeat to Bracknell

Maidenhead Town’s Kennet A team were on the scent of victory against Bracknell last week only to lose track in the final ends to go down by two shots (6967).

Town won on two rinks, with Andy Mayne, John Mitchell, Mike White and skip Stewart Wright claiming a 24-13 rink win and Steve Tegg, Roy West, Danny Davies and skip Clive Behmber winning 17-15 in a closer affair.

Town's B team were handed a bye to the next round.

In the KLV league, Town’s A team were pitched against their B team, with Town A winning on all three riks for a comprehens­ive 69-37 victory.

In the TVL the women’s team comfortabl­y won away at Great Hollands by 14 shots (6046). The rink skipped by Mary Mackay with June Palmer and Kathy Leonard had a tight game but came through to win by one shot (22-21). The rink skipped by Kim Eales with Jan Mayne and Trish Wheeler romped home finishing 15 shots ahead, 24-9.

Town also played a friendly away at Windsor & Eton but failed to trouble their hosts, losing on all rinks.

W There were contrastin­g fortunes for Desborough Bowls Club’s men’s league teams this week.

In the Kennet League, Desborough’s A team had an evening to forget on a tricky green as they were beaten 12-2 by counterpar­ts Caversham.

The opposite was true

in the battle of the B teams as Desborough overcame Caversham 122 thanks to a superb effort from Paul Winstanley, John Skinner, Jim McDonnell, and

Dick Bishop who won their rink by 21 shots.

There was an all-club affair in the KLV league as Desborough's B and C teams clashed with Jim McDonnell leading the B team to an 8-2 win.

The B team also saw their match against Sunningdal­e B pushed forward because of the Queen’s Jubilee celebratio­ns and they managed to get over the line 8-2 in a game that was tighter than the scoreline suggests.

The rink skipped by Jim McDonnell once again played a big hand in the victory that lifts the side top of their division.

Desborough’s KLV A team lost out on local bragging rights as they went down by 2 – 12 to Maidenhead Thicket A.
