Braywood lose ground on leaders after one-run defeat to Kingshill

Chilterns League round-up: Braywood fall short with the bat as enthralling contest goes down to very final ball

-

Braywood lost a little ground on the sides at the top of the Chilterns League Championship after losing by just one run to Great Kingshill on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Braywood restricted their visitors to 211-8 in 45 overs but fell agonisingly short in their reply, with just one wicket in hand.

Braywood got off to a solid enough start in the field, as Mark Mackenzie Crook (10), Louis Graham (0) and Alex Hallatt (0) were all removed with the scorer having barely been troubled, however, Alex Dashwood (33) and Saminda Gunawardene (83) led the visitors recovery and Nick Hallatt's (43no) unbeaten late stand with Ben Hobbs (24no) edged Kingshill toward a defendable total.

Kamran Hafeez supplied the best figures for Braywood, taking 3-43, while Mohammed Ansar also took 2-43.

In reply, opener Nasser Satti initially cut loose, scoring 66 with support from the Nasir Mehmood (19) and Ansar

(17), but momentum was lost when Satti fell lbw to Sandeep Vitty Reddy Gari (3-27). A middle order collapse then left Krishna Cambampaty (28no) and Mohammed Waheed (32no) with too much to do in an enthralling game that went down to the very final ball.

Braywood sit fourth in the Championship but now trail leaders Holmer Green by 58 points having suffered two defeats from their opening five games.

In the Chilterns League Premiership, Pinkneys Green maintained their impressive start with a five wicket win over leaders Cadmore End, closing the gap at the top to just six points.

Green claimed their fourth win of the season in dominant fashion, restricting

Cadmore to just 191 all out, despite losing the toss, and then chasing their target for the loss of just five wickets.

Green's bowlers shared the wickets around, with Saleem Ahmed, Teginder Kaleka and Jake Stokes each taking a brace behind Chandu Sekar Bandla who took 3-28.

He inflicted much of the damage on Cadmore's middle to low order, after the visitors had made a promising start with the bat. Opener Asad Ali made 37, while Zahid Aslam top scored with 46 before falling to Ahmed (2-32)

and Stokes (2-32) respectively.

Pinkney's response was dominated by the bat of Jagsit Dhillon, who fired off an unbeaten 75 with support from Matthew Harding (43) and Vinay Reddy (26).

Littlewick Green are now nestled in just behind them in third after beating Monks Risborough by six wickets on Saturday.

With Gary Lines taking 4-27, Monks Risborough were restricted to 167 all out in 41.1 overs. Mohammed Humza Khaleef Amjad (55) had initially taken the fight to Littlewick before he fell to Nanda Devaiah (1-19), however, except for Balal Khan (26) few of his teammates settled at the crease.

In response Littlewick recovered from the early losses of Jake Ling and Tom Maskel, both for 13, with skipper Christie Green smashing an unbeaten 78 in a match-winning stand with Jack Mason-Apps (32no).

In Division 1 Holyport won their fourth league match from five with a four wicket win over Ruislip Victoria.

Having elected to field on winning the toss, Holyport restricted their visitors to 226-9 and chased it down with four wickets in hand in the 43rd over.

In a fine all-round display, the hosts shared the wickets around with Shaid Raza (2-45), Qadeer Rasool (2-37) and Razwan Hanif (2-44) each taking a couple of wickets while their response was dominated by the bats of Bhavik Batel (90no) and Qas Wajid (50).

Little Marlow were also victorious at the weekend, defeating Harpsden by 72 runs at the Bradlish Ellames Recreation Ground.

Having been put into bat, Marlow set their visitors a target to chase of 245-6 from their 45 overs, with the middle order responding well to a challenging start. Anwar Mahmood initiated the recovery with 37 before Tahir Rashid

(50), Umar Islam (47) and B Kumar (41) took on the baton to post a competitive total.

Harpsden initially kept up with the run rate, with Mrinal Madina scoring 41 and Alex Morgan 24 but Kumar took 5-26 in a fine personal display to turn the tide in Little Marlow's favour, and they were bowled out 72 runs short of victory.
