Windsor give it their all with a man short

-

Windsor were beaten for the third time this season after a closely fought encounter with Sonning on home turf.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, Windsor had a tricky time restricting their visitors, particularly G Kivatsha (87), L Dean (52), and C Wardlaw (48), and at the end of the first innings, Sonning had amassed 268-6 from 45 overs. Solid contributions came from I Dibsdall (55), R Lewin (41), and V Lingala (40) as Windsor initially came up with the runrate, however, with O Rowe claiming 3-39, they finished up 14 runs short, totting up 254 all out.

They're sixth in TVL Division 3A ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kidmore End.

Captain Mark Lines said: “We had 10 men for 40 overs when we were fielding, and we done very well to get close to the total when we were batting. In the field we were down to 10 men because one of my players didn’t turn up as he was unwell. It was a real shame because with him we could have taken off another 20 or 30 runs maybe. It was a good chase with the bat, as good as you’re going to get on a day like that. They got about 270 while we got 250 so it was closely fought.

“To be fair to the opposition they performed well all day and probably deserved the win. We are away to Kidmore End this weekend who I know are right at the top of the league. It will be a tough ask but it would be nice to break their unbeaten run. Unfortunately, it’s a long old journey to get there. We are on the wrong side of the geographical outlay of the TVL which is killing us at the minute.

“We’re having to travel an hour or so away every other Saturday.

“It would be nice to be local, but hey, we have got to get on with it.”
