Suttons get the better of Town

Bowls: Desborough suffer at hands of Southampto­n

Maidenhead Town's Kennet A league side managed a win in one game and a draw in another, but Suttons emerged victorious 12-3 at the end of a contest that was closer than it looks on paper.

Having been up against it, Clive Behmber, Roy West, Peter Stopp and Richard Smith won Town's solitary rink in exciting fashion, triumphing in each of the final five ends to sneak home for a 17-15 win.

Town’s other point came in a 16-16 draw secured by Paul Hutchinson's rink aided by John Butchart, Tony Stuart, and Clive Knowles.

Town's B team played a match of two halves against Twyford in a game disrupted by short showers.

They were leading 33-26 at the halfway stage, largely thanks to Tony Ruffell's team who were 16-3 up, however, the opposition took control in the second half, winning 27 shots in the final four ends. Tony's team did claim an impressive 21-9 win, but Town ended up losing the match by 18 shots and picked up only two points.

Town's KLV A team claimed a comfortabl­e win on two of the three rinks to emerge 59-34 winners over Windsor and Eton on Monday last week.

Tony Stuart, Steve Wheeler and skip Danny Davies won their rink 19-11. however, top rink honours went to Mick Oliver, Derek Jackson and skip Ian Wright who changed up a gear after a slow start to win 24-7.

With the third rink drawing 16-16, the home team claimed nine points.

Town's KLV B team lost their away game to Wraysbury by 20 shots (59-39).

They had one rink win, that of Peter Stopp with Richard Smith and Derek Jackson (17-14).

Town's KLV C team lost their home match with Windsor & Eton 56-31.

And despite putting up a good fight against visitors Hurst in this weekend's friendly, Town were beaten 81-66. The hosts managed one rink win, with Phil Blackman skipping June Palmer and Geoff Motley to a narrow 18-17 victory.

W Desborough made their annual pilgrimage to Southampto­n Old Green and suffered their usual result, going down to a 46 shot (13993) defeat.

Some of the teams had a challengin­g afternoon against strong opponents, however, the visitors did manage two rink wins, those skipped by Mike Whittingha­m and Roger Wyatt. Wyatt, together with Sally Darby, Linda Davis and

Peter Crabbe took top rink honours for their 24-12 victory.

They'll get their chance for revenge when Southampto­n visit Green Lane on August 13.

Desborough chalked up their first friendly win of the season when they welcomed Berkshire Masonic B.A to Green Lane.

Top rink honours went to Jacinta Monteiro, Mandy Boyce and Paul Patel as the hosts claimed a 41-shot (10059) victory.

In the Kennet League, Desborough's B team moved top of the table after a 10-4 victory over Wargrave, a match which included a memorable 29-7 win for Richard Earl, Jim May, Tony Buckley and Dick Bishop.
