Town’s Kennet League A team beaten on all rinks against Wokingham A

-

Maidenhead Town's Kennet League A team suffered a disappointing result as they were beaten on all the rinks in an 80-60 defeat to Wokingham A.

Of the four beaten rinks, Clive Behmber, Andy Mayne, Phil Lempriere and Richard Smith came the closest to sneaking victory, going down by one shot, 16-15.

The Kennet League B team made up for disappointment somewhat with a convincing 66-58 win over Wargrave. With three wins out of the four rinks they took 12 points to the opposition’s two, with Grant Oxtoby’s team building on their strong start to win 20-9.

Peter Herke’s team were virtually level pegging for the most part until the final ends when dropped five shots each and trailed to a 20-9 defeat.

Steve Wheeler’s four were trading shots with their rivals until the 14th end when they scored 11 shots in four ends to seal a 20-14 victory. Tony Ruffell’s team had a topsy-turvy match, losing five ends in a row before recovering to notch up eight shots in the final four ends to win by three.

In the KLV, Town’s A team played at Windsor Great Park and won on all three rinks for a 58-40 victory.

The team of Clive Knowles, John Butchart and skip Tim Eales claim a comprehensive 25-10 victory having led from the start, while the other two rinks were much closer, with Town winning them 18-16 and 15-14.

The C team claimed a 51-38 win over Windsor and Eton at home, winning on two of the three rinks.

Tom Brash, Vijay Sandal and skip Pash Bhardwaj won 23-9, while John

Beech, Colin Butler and skip Robert Knight edged to a 14-12 win.

The women's TVL match at Reading went the way of the hosts, who won on all three rinks for a 57-36 win.

Town did win their weekend friendly against Marlow however, with victories on two of the four rinks.

Top rink in the 64-55 win was that of Sue Page, David Cormican and skip Phil Blackman who won by eight shots (19-11). The rink of Norma Cormican, Vijay Sandal and skip Wheeler came home to win by five shots, 18-13, while the other two rinks both lost their games by two shots, 15-17 and 12-14.

W Desborough found it difficult to get any rhythm going collectively as they lost by 54 shots (114-60) at Great Hollands this week. Against strong opponents on a challenging green, Desborough were always going to be up against it, and, although there were some solid individual performances, they could win on only one rink.

Stars of the day for the visitors were Ralph Hatch, Len Stallwood and Dave Hasler who won 22- 17.

Desborough held their annual charity day this week and raised more than £300 in support of Thames Hospice. The event included a triples competition which was won on shot difference by Andre Davis, Jacinta Monteiro, and Roger Wyatt.

In the Kennet League, the B team claimed a 12-2 win over Sunningdale and remain top of their division, however, the A team went down to a 12-2 defeat to a strong Reading side.

In the KLV, the A team went to Windsor & Eton and beat their A side 8 – 2 but the B team didn’t fare so well at the same venue, losing 8-2 to their C side. The C team moved up the table with a 10-0 win against Sunningdale.
