MAC juniors chalk up fantastic results and pbs

Maidenhead Athletic Club: Club finishes third at Alder Valley Boys League meeting

Maidenhead Athletic Club's (MAC) junior boys team chalked up some fantastic results and personal bests (pbs) at the Alder Valley Boys League event on Sunday, June 4.

Overall, the team finished in third place overall, the club's best finish in the event for a long time.

The inter-club rivalry is also getting intense in the u13s and u15s age groups, but the team are all very supportive and encouragin­g of each other.

The main highlight of the day was the three club records set by Callum Presnail in the 100m, 200m and long jump. He also achieved the English Schools 100m qualifying standard.

The Berkshire Schools Championsh­ips also took place last weekend with many MAC juniors competing in the school or district vests.

Representi­ng the Royal Borough were Hannah Britton, Jack Britton, Callum Presnail, Sophie MaLachlan, Imogen Wilson, Gabrielle D'Orazio and Filippo D'Orazio with Matilda Noble and Katie Losel representi­ng Reading.

Filippo and Gabrielle both set huge new long jump pbs while Hannah won the senior girls triple jump.

John Ingram and Shirin Irvine took part in the Run Dorney event this week, with John completing the half marathon and Shirin taking part in her first race in four years.

With her family cheering her on,

Shirin completed the 10k in 55.17 and finished seventh in her age category, while John finished second in his age category in a time of 2.00.38 for the half marathon.

At the St Albans Half Marathon Anthony Hornby managed to shave 12 minutes off his time from last year's race to finish in a new pb of 1.43.18.

Bev Cartlidge came out of half marathon ‘retirement’ following shoulder surgery to complete the Potters ‘Arf Marathon around her home city of Stoke-on

Trent. She hadn’t trained for a specific time but was delighted to exceed her expectatio­ns with a time of 1.59.26, a sub two-hour personal best.

After nearly three years of no visits to Germany to see family and friends, Sani Koch made the most of his trip home by taking part in the Parkrun Tourism to Zielona Góra, Poland and Potsdamer Schlösserl­auf. finishing the half marathon in a leisurely 3.24.05.

Tom and Ellen Easten took on the Osterley Park 10k in Ealing for the first time since the pandemic.

Pacing for a sub 40 time, Tom finished the ‘pancake flat’ course in 39.51 and was

15th overall, while Ellen finished in 44.12 and was 43rd overall, and the fifth female finisher.

One of the more unusual 10K races in the calendar returned this year, with Neil Muir taking on the Two Castles 10k from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle.

The point-to-point event starts and finishes inside the grounds of the two castles and follows an undulating course out through Warwickshi­re.

Neil finished in 54.54 and was swiftly bussed back to the start line with his medal, T-Shirt and ‘memories of a unique experience’.
