Bringing back Mick was a ‘no brainer’ says owner
Windsor FC founding director Kevin Stott says employing Mick Woodham as first team manager was a ‘nobrainer’, primarily due to his previous experience with the Royalists and record of success.
Statistically speaking, Stott believes Woodham had a 52 per cent win ratio in his last spell with the club and, factually, a superb history in domestic competitions.
After leading the club on two remarkable runs in the FA Vase, winning the Berks & Bucks
Senior Trophy twice, and establishing the Royalists as a top 10 side in the Combined Counties Premier Division and, later, the Hellenic Premier Division, Woodham left Stag Meadow in 2019 to focus on his health and fulltime profession as a carpenter.
“Bringing Mick back to the club was a nobrainer,” said Stott. “His track record is exceptional, and I think his win ratio was 52 per cent the last time he was with us.
“With the cups he did exceptionally well too. He won back-to-back Berks & Bucks Senior Trophies, he went on fantastic runs in the FA Vase, and he put in good performances in the league cups.
“When he left in the first instance, it wasn’t because of his performance or anything to do with our relationship. It
was just because he needed a break – he had been doing it for eight years after all.
“He had a short spell at Bracknell after leaving and then spent some other time elsewhere including Staines. Based on the conversations we’ve recently had, he’s a much better manager now.
“His stats, philosophy, and the fact that I have previously worked with him contributed to me making the decision to employ Mick.”
Stott added: “I considered every single person that applied. I considered, spoke to, and interviewed them because it was the right thing for me to do, and as a club, we try to be very respectful to anyone who reaches out. There were some really diverse and interesting people apply.”
