From hot jazz to klezmer and the Boss
Soak up the beats with the heat this summer sounds as a host of live music gigs comes to Norden Farm.
Station House originated from the Station Tavern in London during the early nineties. They mix instinctive funk/soul rhythms with the diversity of the blues.
The blues-based ‘groove’ band have a unique sound that is influenced by New Orleans
Second Line, soul, jazz and British funk. Their show centres around tracks from their latest album No Barricades featuring the works of TW Henderson plus songs from Johnny Guitar Watson, Keb Mo, Average White Band and Labi Siffre, to name but a few.
Loshn are an exciting collaboration between some of the UK’s most acclaimed Klezmer musicians. They perform on Saturday July 2 at 8pm. Tickets are £15.
The Klezmer trio explore the traditional music of Ashkenazi Jewish culture. Their intimate chamber music style arrangements speak, sing and dance with the tradition’s distinct Yiddish accent and vocabulary.
Fiddle player Anna Lowenstein and clarinettist John McNaughton are joined on accordion by Susi Evans (She’koykh, The London Klezmer Quartet), performing intimate, chamber music style Klezmer.
Steve Nieve has been Elvis Costello’s keyboardist for over thirty years. He performs Stories of Love with Kessada on Wednesday July 13 at 8pm. Tickets are £16.
Steve is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy award winning artist. A special magic occurs when Steve Nieve is let loose to solo on the piano.
Along with vocalist and drummer Kessada, he brings songs and anecdotes around Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Neil Young and others. They also perform self penned music.
The ‘Jimi Hendrix of the banjo’ heads to Norden Farm’s main stage. Don Vappie and Jazz Creole perform on Thursday July 14 at 8pm, tickets £16.
Don Vappie is an award winning Creole banjoist/vocalist from New Orleans. He is a living embodiment of 300 years of New Orleans music, expressing all aspects of the unique melting pot of cultures that is New Orleans.
He honours the tradition of his predecessor, banjoist Danny Barker, and has singlehandedly kept alive Créole songs of New
Orleans.
This US/European project combines all genres of New Orleans from traditional to modern day funk with the classic early tradition of a string band.
Other music this summer includes The Shackleton Trio performing fiery tunes on mandolin, fiddle, guitar and banjo on Thursday July 21; Bunty and Bubbly perform classic Bollywood songs plus newer hits by the likes of by Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu; The Toni Kofi Quartet perform a celebration of the jazz giant Julian ‘Cannnonball’ Adderley – and fans of The Boss shouldn't miss The Sound of Springsteen is an eight piece tribute to his music.
