Scorching win for the Titans

-

The Maidenhead Titans are sitting pretty at the top of Division 1 at the half-way stage after last week's impressive 13-5 victory over third-placed Bracknell Scorchers Orange.

Heading into the clash the Titans were second to the Blue Sox on their head-to-head record only, however, this result, and a defeat for the Sox, means they've now moved two points clear.

The Blue Sox still have a game in hand on the Titans, however, the teams will meet twice more before the season concludes so their destiny remains in their own hands.

The Titans came into the game off the back of a short winning streak; however, the Scorchers are usually there or there abouts in the battle for honours.

Defence dominated in the early innings and this encounter bucked the recent trend for high scoring matches.

Both sides only managed one run in the first inning, and neither was able to chalk up a run in the second.

It wasn't until the third innings that the Titans cut loose and managed to get their last batter to the plate. They managed three runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to open up what would prove an unassailable 10-1 lead.

The Scorchers though have a happy habit of scoring well off one innings and that recent pattern looked to be repeating itself when they notched up four runs in the sixth innings. Once again though, the Titans’ defence snuffed out any hope of a comeback and they rallied with three runs of their own to close out relatively routine a 13-5 victory.

They're set to play their closest rivals for the title, the Blue Sox, this week.
