The chairman of Maidenhead Mosque has thanked the community for its support as work gets underway to develop a new Islamic Centre.

In a post on the Maidenhead Mosque Facebook page on Friday, March 3, the Islamic Trust Maidenhead announced the start of phase one of the construction for the new Islamic Centre.

From Saturday, March 4, work began to demolish the existing centre, which the mosque acquired in 2008 to provide community activities and classes.

The post stated that the community ‘has long since outgrown the current facilities’, and the new hub will allow Maidenhead Mosque & Islamic Centre ‘to continue to develop, to provide space and support for a growing community in Maidenhead’.

The design of the new centre brings together flexible space design, energy efficiency and low carbon technologies to ‘create a centre that’s ready for the future’.

The new centre will provide services and additional community provisions, including health and wellbeing facilities, educational provisions, a library, learning and visitor centre, a community clinic, a community hall and conference facilities, funeral and remembrance facilities, and a day centre for senior citizens.

In a statement, Saghir Ahmed, chairman of Maidenhead Mosque, said: “I am very delighted to

announce the start of the construction phase of the new Islamic Centre building on the old Redcote House site.

“This is a moment of immense joy for the community of Maidenhead.

“The Islamic Trust will continue to deliver and provide support right across the community, from young families and individuals to its elderly members.

“When complete, the building will be a new, modern and iconic centre for not only the Muslim community but the wider community, not only in Maidenhead but further afield.

“I thank the Maidenhead community in particular for their generous support and everyone who has contributed towards this noble cause.”

The Facebook post stated that there will be no on-site parking available for the entire duration of the construction process and visitors need to make alternative arrangements to travel to the mosque.

It urged people to cycle or walk where possible and if those attending needed to drive, asked them to find a parking space well before they arrive at the site.
