Easter present for Foodshare
MAIDENHEAD: Foodshare Maidenhead has received a cash donation to feed schoolchildren during the holidays.
The Wooden Spoon Chilterns committee visited Foodshare last week with a selection of Easter eggs and a cheque for £2,000 to fund the Holiday Hunger project.
The project ensures that schoolchildren eligible for free school meals can still access nutritious food out of term time.
Wooden Spoon’s Gareth Ebenezer, who has volunteered with Foodshare over the past three years, said: “I know from my time with Foodshare, while I was furloughed, how vital their work is to so many families, particularly [during] the cost of living crisis.
“It’s nice to bring a few treats and chocolates along that might help raise a smile at Easter.”
Donations of tinned and packet food have been accepted at its headquarters in the New Market and Nicholsons Centre, including tinned vegetables and fish, cooking sauces, spreads, crisps and UHT milk. Chocolate Easter eggs are also appreciated in the lead up to the Easter holidays.
Donations can be made on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and residents can find collection boxes across town.
Wooden Spoon is a rugby-related charity and the £1,000 raised by the Chilterns regional committee for Foodshare Maidenhead was matched by the national charity.
Foodshare trustee, Debbie Gee, said: “We are incredibly grateful for every donation, however small, to help us feed children and families around Maidenhead.
