Boats, bubbles and a mermaid
Maidenhead: The stage is set for Waterways Fun Day
A day of family fun full of music, entertainment and activities on and off the water will be held for the Maidenhead Waterways Fun Day on Saturday.
The fun day event is being organised by the Friends of Maidenhead Waterways (FoMW) and the Rotary
Club of Maidenhead Bridge.
Richard Davenport, chair of trustees at FoMW, said: “The inspiration for the fun day came from the first stage of restoration of the once derelict town centre streams into a completed and usable waterway.
“We wanted to publicise progress of the project and the adjoining waterside regeneration”.
The free event will take place from 10am to 3pm, kicking off with a canoe cavalcade on the water at 10am, followed by a ‘crazy’ Flamingo Chase.
Claires Court and Berkshire Scouts will also take to the water for demonstrations and short boat trips will be available from the new boating platform at Chapel Arches.
The event will see the High Street closed off between The Bear and Coppa Club to accommodate a range of food and craft stalls and a raised stage at Waterside Quarter showcasing various entertainers throughout the day, with something for everyone.
A magician, a bubble fairy and even a singing mermaid will be among the attractions.
Sponsors include the
Louis Baylis Trust, Sorbon Estates and Countryside.
Richard added: “The first waterways event was held in September 2021, but the waterway and the adjoining waterside developments are now even further forward, bringing the entire regenerated area to life.
“We had organised another last September but the Queen’s passing forced us to cancel and re-schedule.
“An annual event on Maidenhead’s calendar remains our aim.”
