Goal attack – quick-fire netball contest for school mums

-

Mums will be competing in an inter-PTA Netball Tournament in Maidenhead next week, with the chance of winning a cash prize for their children’s school, writes Madeleine Evans.

The event, which is running for the third year, will take place at Braywick Leisure Centre on Saturday, and involve more than 16 teams representing schools from the area.

The annual tournament is organised by M2M Events, a local business offering a variety of events for parents to connect and socialise.

Company founder Nicky Cox said: “It’s great to have a few new schools join us and to welcome back those who played in previous years.

“We’re all set for another great tournament with a fantastic community atmosphere.”

The event promises a friendly game for mixed-experience players, who’ve been getting tournament-ready with the help of training sessions from England netball coach Debbie Spindlow.

Mums taking part will play in a quick-fire tournament, where squads of 10 will play 10-minute matches, independently refereed, to battle it out for the prize. Part of the winner’s prize money was donated by local estate agents, Oakwood Estates.

Managing director Josh Godfrey said: “Oakwood Estates is committed to working in partnership with the community to make Maidenhead a thriving place to live and work, so this sociable sporting event is a perfect way to show our support.”

Lined up to play in the tournament are teams representing schools from Maidenhead, Windsor, Marlow, Cookham, Ascot, Flackwell Heath, Sandhurst, Warfield, Frieth and Wokingham.

M2M Events was founded by Maidenhead mum Nicky Cox during the pandemic after realising how much parents would benefit from face-toface meeting. It now hosts a range of competitive, social, and educational events.
