As seen on screen – a plethora of locations

-

Following on from Jim Taylor’s mention of the excellent production of the Marlow Murder Club (Opinion, March 8) he missed out on the numerous episodes of

Midsomer Murders that have been ‘shot’ in and around Maidenhead, as I know from my own experience as a TV/film extra.

Among other locations, Littlewick Green and the airfield at White Waltham have been featured more than once.

One episode of Midsomer began with a body being thrown out of a plane having taken off ostensibly from the airfield.

Another, involving a spitfire at a full scale air show on the airfield depicted a rather spectacular air accident with the plane going up in flames!

Indeed, White Waltham is practically a film studio in its own right as hardly a week goes by without location signs in the area indicating that filming is taking place locally. Quite recently in an episode of Trigger Point, the private executive jet prepared and ready for take off was filmed at White Waltham.

Returning to Midsomer, Inspector

Barnaby must at some time have been stationed at the same ‘nick’ as his brother officer Morse as on a recent re-run Morse was seen to be sitting on a bench at the church in Bray; and didn’t the vicar on one occasion, not the real one I should add, commit suicide by throwing himself off the church tower?

Certainly, I would agree with Jim Taylor Maidenhead does has its own very real film heritage.

Who needs a film studio at Gays Lane, Holyport when seemingly all the facilities are already available in abundance!? GRAHAM CHAMBERLAIN Snowball Hill Maidenhead
