A health and wellbeing fair for older men has seen another successful year following a great turnout at the event in Maidenhead Library on Wednesday, March 13.

Hosted by Men’s Matters, a charity focused on helping men ‘live longer and better’, the second instalment of the fayre saw an estimated attendance of 150 people.

Visitors enjoyed chatting with the 27 stallholders in the library, who demonstrated the broad range of support services and products available for older men.

Paul Samuels, trustee of Men’s Matters, said: “I was delighted by the attendance of exhibitors and visitors.

“It was enormously valuable for older men and those who support them.”

Exhibitors included a variety of organisations, including activity and interest groups, like Sport in Mind, Maidenhead U3A, Leisure Focus, and Maidenhead Arts Council.

Healthcare professionals also attended, like HealthWatch, MacMillan Cancer Support, and Heritage Healthcare.

Even transport services showed the services they provided, with stalls from Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust and People to Places.

Following last year’s success, the fair hosted three Tai Chi demonstrations, which proved popular again and gave older men the opportunity to try the practice.

Paul praised the ‘enthusiastic’ stallholders and was pleased they were able to talk with so many older men to share the services the borough has to offer.

Men’s Matters meets every Wednesday afternoon in Maidenhead and every Monday afternoon in Windsor, and hosts socialising events and summer excursions for older men.

Paul described one of the charity’s strengths as connecting older men to community groups in the Royal Borough, and said: “It’s all about social wellbeing, about bringing older guys together to meet other guys – that’s its foundation.” W For more information about the group, visit mensmatters.org
