TEENAGE girls who are suspected to have been high on laughing gas rioted in McDonald’s throwing chairs across the restaurant and smashing a window.

The rampage, which happened at Merseyway on Sunday at 6.30am, is the third such incident in a month at a Stockport town centre outlet of the burger giant. A gang of eight, seven girls and one boy all aged around 14, even hurled empty nitrous oxide (laughing gas) canisters around in front of customers.

Shocked staff originally tried to call the group taxis but after the trouble continued called police.

Officers now want to speak to witnesses to the bust-up and are even appealing to parents, asking if their children were involved.

A police spokesman said: “A window in the door was smashed and the group threw chairs about.

“There is some suggestion they had taken nitrous oxide as they were also throwing canisters around.

“It caused damage and disruption – we are taking it very seriously. At that time in the morning people just want to use the place for breakfast.

“We would ask parents if they know where their children were at the time and could they have been involved.” Police say one youngster, who smashed the window, is a girl with long, curly, brown hair, wearing a three-quarter length white top and skirt.

Earlier this month, shocking video footage emerged of a violent brawl inside the Grand Central McDonald’s. The fighting began on the customer side of the counter but spilled over into the kitchen area with food thrown and woman being hit over the head with a mop.

And police were called to the same outlet last month to deal with a group of youngsters abusing staff and customers. The gang threatened to smash up police cars and a 15-year-old was arrested.

Police then issued a dispersal order for the restaurant and the surrounding area, which a 14-year-old was arrested for breaching.

Another incident at the Grand Central outlet on Saturday at 5am saw a man abuse staff and spit at them while filming the incident himself.

Previously the branch has tried playing classical music to discourage young troublemakers from hanging around.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Our primary concern is for our staff and other customers.”
