STYLISH CITY GET SUITED AND BOOTED

- By ROBERT DAWSON By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

Some of the City players in the new club suit UNITED are in talks to play Barcelona this summer.

It is understood discussions have taken place ahead of a match between the Reds and the Spanish giants in Washington DC in July.

However, the deal is yet to be finalised.

The schedule of the International Champions Cup is set to revealed in New York on March 21. Talking to investors in a conference call this month, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward insisted he could not ‘confirm or deny’ United’s pre-season tour ahead of next season will take place in the United States.

But it is understood United are exploring training bases in California with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), one possibility.

A friendly against City on the west coast of America has already been mooted.

The proposed Manchester derby in Beijing last summer was cancelled after heavy rain in the Chinese capital made the pitch at the Bird’s Nest Stadium unplayable.

United are likely play at least three games if they make the trip across the Atlantic.

Other possible opponents CITY have unveiled a new official club suit with a moody black-and-white squad photoshoot to mark the Champions League knockout rounds.

The Blues have teamed up with Italian fashion brand DSquared2 for the suits which the team will wear for away UEFA Champions League games.

The club have been in partnership with the brand since October 2016 but the news suits are ready for City’s away include Juventus or Real Madrid, who are also expected to spend their summers in America. Facing an MLS team is also an option.

If a deal can be struck for United to play Barcelona, the game would likely take place at FedExField, home of NFL team the Washington Redskins. Tuesday, July 25, has been mentioned as a possible date.

United special: Pages 45-47 trip to Monaco. City will fly to Monaco for the second leg of the last 16 tie looking dapper in their new modern, slim fit three button-jackets.

To celebrate the arrival of City’s new suit, Dean and Dan Caten, founders and designers of Dsquared2, said: “We wanted the players to feel as confident in this suit as they do when they pull on their team jersey.”

As long as City get themselves through to the quarter finals, it won’t matter if they fly in a tracksuit!
