ONE of the biggest tattoo festivals is rocking up to Manchester this weekend, and it’s bringing more than just ink.

The family-friendly Tattoo Tea Party is a celebration of all things kitsch and counter-cultural, with an additional fairground section which offers unlimited rides at no extra charge for ticket holders.

Speaking about their event, festival organisers said: “We will aim to delve into the multi-cultural melting pot of the UK tattoo scene and to recognise and showcase the very best art that these shores and abroad have to offer.”

Spread over 13,000 sq ft, the Tattoo Tea Party welcomes over 300 hand picked exponents of tattooing, who will all be on hand to ink up visitors from Saturday March 4 to Sunday March 5.

Now in its sixth year, the huge festival will include unlimited rides on childhood favourites such as dodgems and the waltzers. More than 100 vendor stalls will sell everything from jewellery and taxidermy to cakes and vintage clothing. Hosting the weekend are Garaghty and Thom; the comedy duo are known from theatres and cabarets across the world.

Throughout the weekend, willing volunteers will be painted head-totoe with stunning murals. Watch the paintings come to life throughout the day, and then from 4pm have your photo taken with the body art models.

Other entertainment includes the Sideshow Illusions, where magicians will perform classic tricks and illusions, from the straight jacket escape to tightrope walking.

Other performances include fire shows and angle grinding by the Pyrohex Dance Act, with top tattooed models and dancers Cervena Fox, Shelly d’Inferno, Katherine Suicide and Gem Dee.
