Skipper is confident Latics can keep up great run

OLDHAM CAPTAIN WANTS THREE POINTS FROM WALSALL TRIP

- FOOTBALL By MICHAEL HALE @MENSports

OLDHAM Athletic captain Peter Clarke says that his side go into the trip to Walsall full of confidence.

The Latics are unbeaten in five while their hosts have only won one of their last four League One outings.

And Clarke insists that John Sheridan’s team are targeting three points at the Bescot Stadium.

He said: “They are a good side, they like to get it down and pass it and they have some good individual players. We will go there confident and we will know what our game plan is. We will know what we will do, how we are going to combat their strengths and hopefully expose their weaknesses. We will go there and be ready to take the three points.”

ROCHDALE’s downturn continued with a 3-1 loss at Peterborough United last weekend, stretching their winless run to seven.

The last couple of months have been costly, seeing Dale drop from the play-offs to 10th in the league, seven points adrift of the top six.

Keith Hill’s side play host to table-toppers Sheffield United, hoping to kick-start their season with less than two months to go.

A question and answer session with four members of senior BURY staff is set to take place next week at Gigg Lane.

They could move a big step closer to answering the question of whether they will stay up or not today however as the 18th-place Shakers host Gillingham – one spot below them.

Should they win and other results go their way, Lee Clarke’s side could potentially rise to 15th in the league and move seven points clear of the bottom four.

BOLTON WANDERERS manager Phil Parkinson believes his side’s form isn’t ‘that bad’ despite dropping down to fourth in the league.

The Trotters have only lost once since February but are winless in three, missing out on the opportunity to overtake an out-of-form Scunthorpe United side in second.

Bolton face the Iron’s latest conquerors, AFC Wimbledon, knowing a win could put them back into the automatic promotion places.

Parkinson said: “It’s not terrible because despite chopping and changing for the last month, we have only lost one game which was away to Sheffield United.”

Graham Barrow and Andy Welsh will be in temporary charge of WIGAN ATHLETIC’s Championship relegation six-pointer at Blackburn Rovers. Manager Warren Joyce is recovering from minor surgery.”
