Ammies miss the chance to close gap on league leaders

- NON-LEAGUE By MICHAEL HALE @MENSports

SALFORD CITY’s chances of catching National League North table-toppers AFC Fylde took a blow after losing 2-0 at Tamworth.

Two goals in four minutes late in the first half proved to be the difference as Connor Taylor’s 40th-minute strike was added to by a Dan Newton header.

The Ammies are now 11 points adrift of Fylde, although they had FC UNITED to thank for keeping them in second place. George Thompson scored the only goal as the Rebels beat third-placed Kiddersminster Harriers at Broadhurst Park. FC United defended valiantly in the second half to ensure they held onto the points.

STOCKPORT COUNTY missed the chance to move into the play-off positions after being held to a goalless draw by Chorley.

County dominated throughout, however, they couldn’t break down their gutsy visitors.

CURZON ASHTON also drew 0-0 at home as they remained in 12th place after sharing the spoils with Brackley Town.

ALTRINCHAM were so close to picking up a point at AFC Telford United but had it stolen away from them late on by Dave Hibbert’s match-winning strike.

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC’s trip to Alfreton Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

MACCLESFIELD TOWN’S two-game winning run game to an end in the Conference as they were beaten 3-0 by Forest Green Rovers.
