CITY Spellbinding Merlin says Blues must stay patient

- By CHARLOTTE DUNKER @ManCityMEN

HE ran the show from midfield in City’s 2-0 win against Sunderland and David Silva has revealed what the team must do to carry on winning this season.

It took the Blues until the 42nd minute to break down the team who sit bottom of the Premier League table, but once they did there only ever looked like one winner.

City now sit eight points behind league leaders Chelsea and are still to play them in a crunch tie at Stamford Bridge.

It gives the Blues – who have a second leg last-16 tie against Monaco next week and are still in the FA Cup – a big boost in their bid to close the gap.

And Silva has highlighted the team’s patience and belief, saying: “We have to be patient. We scored two goals and we could have scored more, so we are happy.

“And we had to believe, we had to keep going.

“We know the last two or three months are the most important of the season.

“We are in a good moment, we are fit and everyone is helping so we are happy and we have to keep going.”

After the game Guardiola was spotted having a word with Silva on the pitch before giving him a hug.

Speaking about Guardiola’s intense management style, he said: “We need the intensity to be high. He is always behind us and pushing us which is good for the team.”
